• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Hi!

I'm slowly going mad here trying to upgrade the firmware on a pair of SL4000e handhelds. The reason for wanting to upgrade is to get the Talker Alias support that is in the newer F/W versions.

Currently, the radios have

FW - R 02.09.00.0001
Codeplug 14.00.13

installed on them, and I had been using the 'old' CPS 1.0 to handle them.

I have installed CPS v2 (Version 2.110.235.0) and it can read and write the radio's codeplugs just fine.
However, any attempt at upgrading the radio's firmware generates an error saying:

#1001798: No matching package(s) exist.

My understanding from Radiotronics blog post ( Complete Motorola MOTOTRBO CPS 2.0 Programming Software & Firmware Upgrade Guide – Radiotronics UK Blog ) is that I need to upgrade to R2.10.09.0001 as an intermediate step. I've downloaded and installed that firmware package (and inside the MOTOTRBO Upgrade packages/update folder, is indeed a directory called R0210090001_150510) so I think it's installed correctly.

However, still no joy - just the no matching packages error. Is there a way to debug further? I can't get the CPS software to tell me which packages it thinks are installed, and why it doesn't think any of them might be appropriate for these radios.

Any help/advice very much welcomed!
