When monitoring Salt Lake Pd. on ac33 system the last few days, I have been hearing a lot of crackling, popping, and transmissions that sound over-modulated.

It's not all of the traffic, just maybe half, and it's not always the same radio's. It can be dispatch, cars, handhelds.

I haven't had this problem before, and I've tried switching narrow band off and on, also tried audio boost off and on, tried different settings in the multi site mode.

All the other systems are working just fine.

Anyone in Salt Lake having the same trouble.....recommendations?

Thanks for any input.

I figured out that the noise is only on a couple of frequencies and it happens when they are in use by who ever.

Does this mean there's a problem with the repeaters?

Do you hear the noise in multiple physical locations?

Also what scanner are you using? Some scanners have very sensitive receivers and you could simply be getting interference from cell sites or something. One of the objectives of re-banding was to fix this, which it did for commercial receivers, but some scanners are still getting hit.

Last week I was having this same issue with listening to the Prison. It was only a few frequencies that the reception came in terrible. After a few days, the problem seemed to fix itself. Not sure if its something to do with the repeaters, our scanners or the weather.

Thanks for the replies. The problem happens on both of my scanners (Pro 106, Pro 197, regardless of location.

It's only on 4 frequencies of ac33. (857.2375, 858.2375, 858.9625, 859.2625) The rest are okay.

Anyway, hope it goes away. :)

Well, the noise continues, but it's only bad on those same frequencies.
I like the idea of the noise canceling speaker but it is quite pricey.
