Hello Group,
I'll be visiting SLC for 8 days starting Saturday. Staying downtown.
Regarding the TG structure, On the SLC system are any Davis Co TG's patched in full-time?
I would assume the Davis Co units only are carried when a radio affiliates on a particular TG. Same with Utah County, other surrounding counties.

Just trying to set up my 396 in the most efficient way for the trip.

As for the Feds,
Is there any P25 (unencrypted) VHF or UHF enforcement activity to be heard? Should I even bother searching?

Here in the Philadelphia area there is alot of good Fed activity in the clear almost daily.

Welcome to our little corner of paradise, Audiodave1. I hope you enjoy your visit.

You will have to hope someone else replies concerning federal radio traffic because I don't receive any. I assume they are encrypted, digital, or both unless you are interested in BLM or The Forest Service. They would be particularly busy lately because of all the wildfires. Most of this traffic, however, would be way too far from Salt Lake to catch except for aircraft that have to occasionally return to SLC for one thing or another.

As far as local public service traffic, I would suggest using the Salt Lake City Public Service site 1 (AC33) for Salt Lake City traffic and UCAN site 3 (Salt Lake County), UCAN site 2 (Davis County), UCAN site 01 (Weber County), and UCAN site 11 (for Tooele, Wasatch, Summit Counties). You can take your choice of Utah County sites, but I doubt you will hear much traffic unless you are on the south end of the Salt Lake valley. Most of these sites are simulcast. You will be able to pick up some Highway Patrol traffic from the north end of Utah county off of UCAN site 11. All the public safety agencies are trunked and in the Database.

These are the sites I have programmed into my BC780XLTs and I can copy an inordinate amount of traffic covering all of these counties from my home against the West mountains of the Salt Lake valley...and I use the approx. 2 1/2 foot telescoping original equipment antennas from inside my home.

There are not any permanently connected TGs on any of the sites. The only time you will hear traffic is when the CC leases a frequency for traffic. If you want us to post the CC frequencies just let us know and we will post them for you.

I hope you enjoy your trip and that it is a safe one.

Thank you for the info.
I hope the BLM traffic / activity stays far away from the valley with the WX you are having.

Looking at the site locations I can see how Davis gets down to SLC. The Nelson peak site interests me. Wasatch and Summit Co? Due to elevation I guess?

I'll grab the CC's from the dB.

Best Regards,
Dave

Nelson Peak carries a lot of traffic from the neighboring counties. A lot of Utah, Davis, Wasatch, Tooele , Summit and some Weber county traffic affiliates with that site. From where I live in Utah County I can't get Salt Lake Simo or the ac33 system and if I want to hear any of the Salt Lake County stuff I have to monitor Nelson. On my Pro 96 I monitor it open so I can hear as much as I can up north.

I would put in the Forestry channels as well. Unfortunately they have been very busy this year and unless you are in City Creek or Emigration canyons you need not worry. I would also suggest the Utah County Fire Pager channel (153.9500) which comes in as far north as Ogden some forty miles north. A lot happens down here in Happy Valley.

Thank you for the Nelson info.

I'm bringing Unitrunker along to run all day while I am conducting business. That'll give me a better look at who is on what site and how often.

UniTrunker

Hey, Dave, once you have had a chance to analyse some of the traffic around here with your UniTrunker, it would be fun if you could post any anomalies or other things that stand out that you notice. I'm not sure if anyone around here runs UniTrunker.

Will do,
Just got in. Good 9th floor monitoring post. It'll be running for the better part of 7 days. I'll pick what I can from it and post the rest for others to decipher.
