At last I don't feel alone!
I sleep with Two on every single night! One for Sheriff office and one for Springfield Twp Fire/Rescue! Plus no one in my house knows how to turn the scanners off in pitch black, and the minute you turn the light on I am awake and fighting for my scanner! It can't speak for itself, but I can!

I usually sleep with two or three of them on. One is searching the 220MHz ham band which has very little activity in my area but when it is active it's usually a friend on the radio looking for someone to talk with. A second monitor is usually sitting on the input of the local PD dispatch channel with the close call feature enabled for other strong signals in my immediate neighborhood. The antenna on this radio is usually removed to insure only very close & strong radio transmissions will be heard. A third radio is often on during bad weather in the snow season and is sitting on DPS dispatch with the volume set low. Other radios are available in the bedroom if needed in addition to the normal radio room in the dining room featuring about twelve radios and other equipment.

when you say
The antenna on this radio is usually removed to insure only very close & strong radio transmissions will be heard.
im just wondering what type of scanner do u use? im using the 396t which cant pick up close call on a good day with the best antennas out there. closecall option must be be a good feature, wish it would work like it soppesed too.

Wow I never thought I would find 5 pages of people I can relate too!
I fall asleep to the sounds of Temple PD. I'm surprised that once I sleep through it, i can stay asleep. I wake up in the morning at 6:30 and simply turn it off.

I have a BCT15 on my night-stand. On all night. I use an ear bud so I dont disturb Sweetie...

Started listening to scanners during the summer of 1993 - during the great flood. A scanner has been on at my home ever since.

I have several scanners in my cage. One I keep focused primarily on aviation frequencies, and it has the appropriate external antenna for optimum reception.

Another is dedicated to law enforcement, with the local police department set as the priority channel.

Yet another is set to the power company and weather services. I keep them on all night, and they do not affect my sleep, or perhaps I'm more crazy than I give myself credit for <g>.

I never leave home without my portable, and guilty as charged, always have one running all night long while I get some zzzzzzz's.

I'm as guilty as everyone else. Always have one on me when I'm out and about, have 10 sitting here with me in my computer room (5 of which are on 24/7). And... yes... a BC350 beside my bed for listening to local conventional comms while sleeping. And yes, I know that doesn't make sense, listening while sleeping... but you guys understand :)

Sleep does not come easy to me......old age. I wake up several times in the night. The Uniden UBCT9 sits on my night stand and I switch it on when I get into bed, listen for a while on earbuds. Some night there is planty of action, other times dead.

I often connect the scanner to a voice activate cassette player to monitor a particular frequency to see if anything has happened during my sleep periods.

I have had some interesting intercepts.

I tried reading in bed, but the scanner is best for me.

Always have my 346XT in the bed with me, even before I got divorced.

Not much happens in Hammond at night, so I'll listen mainly to all the goings on in Chicago. There's always something going on there. :)

Will also tune into a couple of local taxi companies. That's always some amusing listening.

We leave the one in the living room running 24-7. There's a handheld on the headboard of the bed that I can grab if the warning sirens go off or if the ambulance comes down the block.

I only leave my alpha pagers on at night for the fire departments
