I have a Sling Box

http://www.slingmedia.com/

hooked up to my DirecTV Tivo and I love it. It has 2 connections and I am going to play with hooking up the second connection to my scanner output with a cheapo video camera pointing at the screen.

There are multiple interfaces on the back but you guys are smart read the manual

http://www.slingmedia.com/us/docs/SlingboxUserGuide1.0.4.pdf

and you'll get the idea.

I was in Denver last week and did not even turn on the TV in the hotel room. I only watched the TV at home.

WORKS great so it will be just as good for the scanner :)

I will hook it up to the 996 when I get it and remote control it via remote access to the local (to the scanner) PC and watch and listen.

Sure I am not sharing it with anyone but hey what the heck, I already have the Sling BOX :)

Thornton was Busy! I like Colorados set up. Lots to listen to and easy to monitor

I was working on programming the UASD most of the time :) I plan on setting the SlingBox up for when I am stuck at the office programming something I can listen to the scanner and not bother my neighbors in "podworld"

I'll be back up there in a couple of weeks :)

Well hey - enjoy your trip then. Once you have a 996, I'll be grilling for info. I may have to make the 996 my first foray into digital.

If things go well (I get the 996 before my trip) and you and I are close enough I'll show it to you. I stay in Lakewood.

forgive my ignorance, but what is a "sling box?"

I am unable to get the URL to load up here where I'm at. I don't know if its something being blocked on the site but it stalls after trying to load the page.

Click the links in th 1st post :)

I just said that I was unable to get the URL to load up. There is something on that site being blocked by my department's network and the site stalls. Nothing will load up so that's why I was asking.

I'm in the north suburbs (20 mins from Lakewood) but usually on the road in the metro area during the day. If it works out, I'd like to get a look at your unit.

hahahahahahahahahaha...I crack myself up

But seriously, at the very least, I'd like to get your impressions of the 996.
And what do you do (if you don't mind me asking) that has you driving all over the country??

Introducing the Slingbox™ — a groundbreaking piece of hardwired ingenuity that will literally transform the way you watch television. The Slingbox enables you to watch your TV programming from wherever you are by turning virtually any Internet-connected PC into your personal TV. Whether you’re in another room or in another country, you’ll always have access to your television.

Founded in 2004, Sling Media, Inc. is a different kind of consumer electronics company working to demystify convergence technologies and to create empowering experiences for the digital media consumer. The focus of Sling Media solutions is to embrace - not replace - existing products and standards, enhancing them with hardware and software that will greatly improve the consumer experience.

Transforming Windows-based laptops, desktops, PDAs, and smartphones into personal on-the-go digital TVs, the Slingbox™ allows individuals anywhere-anytime access to their own living room television experience with no additional monthly service fees. Enabling consumers to watch their cable, satellite, or digital video recorder (DVR) programming from wherever they are, the Slingbox turns any Internet-connected laptop, desktop, PDA, or smartphone into a personal TV. The Slingbox redirects, or "placeshifts", a single live TV stream from a cable box, satellite receiver, or DVR to the viewer's PC or device located anywhere in the home. If the Slingbox is coupled with a broadband Internet connection, the viewer's live TV stream can be "placeshifted" via the Internet to a PC located anywhere in the world.

In the coming months, SlingPlayer™ software, the software application that connects users to their Slingbox and allows remote control of the video source device, will be available for additional computers and devices, including Macintosh-based systems.. The SlingPlayer applications will be fully compatible with Slingbox product sold today. Please visit our section on this website for the latest information on additional Slingbox and SlingPlayer platform compatibility.
