• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

Can anyone with experience tell me how the digital local audio works on the SLR8000? I assume this entitlement allows the repeater to emit the audio from the repeater speaker? If so, what about if the subscriber radios are using encryption? Is there a section in the codeplug that allows you to input the encryption keys?

Nope, it will always emit audio out of the speaker.

This license is for digital audio to be sent out of the rear accessory port. Without it, only analog (channel) audio is sent out the accessory port. But it has nothing to do with the speaker/microphone port itself. Just the rear accessory interface port.

Ah, thank you for the response. So here are some more questions-

The audio that comes out of the speaker- Is this in analog mode only, or digital mode without basic/enhanced privacy mode enabled?

I was looking through a sample SLR8000 codeplug (without the digital audio entitlement purchased/activated) and just like the other repeaters (SLR1000/5700, XPR8300/8400) the privacy keys don't exist in the codeplug. I know that when enhanced privacy is activated, the repeater just repeats/passes the audio and the subscriber radios encode/decode the privacy keys. So I'm guessing that there wont be any audio coming out of the SLR8000 when privacy is used in digital mode?

And I'm also assuming that you can't TX in digital from the mic input on the SLR8000 as there are no talkgroup settings in the codeplug either? Is the mic input/TX solely for analog mode?

Ok, So I was able to find the SLR8000 basic service & installation manual.

Here's an excerpt from the manual:

6.3.2.4 Microphone

The Front Panel port (RJ45-Jack) is designed for interface to the GMMN4063 microphone. Modulation sensitivity for 60% rated system deviation is typically 56 mVrms (158 mVpp).

The Front Panel microphone port is supported in both analog and digital modes of operation. In digital modes of operation, via CPS configuration the user has the ability to configure the Front Panel microphone audio for either slot 1 or slot 2.

Note: Operation of the Front Panel Speaker and Microphone in digital modes of operation requires an optionally purchased software license. The optional software license allows Front Panel Speaker Audio support in all digital system types, with the Front Panel Microphone Audio support limited to single-site digital conventional operations (i.e. non-IP Site Connect conventional).

So it appears that you do have to purchase the Digital Local Audio Entitlement in order for the speaker to function.

I have also read an article form Wayne Holme's blog on the SLR8000:

On the front, there are two connectors. The one on the left is for a GMMN4063B test microphone. The test microphone allows a field technician to PTT the repeater or talk to radio users. This does require the Digital Audio feature licence though. The target talkgroup

Ok, so in digital conventional mode- How do you key up the repeater from the mic input if there isn't any talkgroup info to configure in the codeplug? Perhaps there is a talkgroup section that appears in the codeplug once you purchase and activate the Digital Local Audio Entitlement? Or is there a default non-programmable talkgroup the repeater uses by default for this purpose, maybe an All Call?

I wish I had an SLR8000 to play with, but unfortunately I don't at the moment.

This is what RM looks like after purchasing digital audio. I haven't been able to personally test since all my systems are Cap+ or Cap Max and using encryption. SLR8000 Audio.png

Thank you, that is extremely helpful. So there is a digital audio section that populates once the entitlement is purchased/activated. This is making sense now.

Since you have the license active on that SLR8000, does it give you any privacy key settings in the security section of the codeplug?

Not compatible with encryption and no way of entering any voice keys.

Well that clears that up- only audio from clear/unencrypted transmissions. Thank you for the information and posting that screenshot.
