Hey, got a question here, i recently (today in fact) noticed that the SMA connector on my BCD436HP is starting to come lose, is there a good (meaning not involving going into the unit and having to mess with the internals too much) way to fix this, or am i just going to have to baby it along till i can replace it (not that much of a biggie)? Looked at the connector and was hoping to find a hold-down screw that i could simply tighten and correct this annoying issue before it becomes signifficant and stats to affect performance. Any thoughts or help would be great :). Thanx! N9NRA

There is a screw that secures the SMA connector to the radio case. There is a possibility it may have worked loose. The actual connector is soldered to the circuit board at multiple locations and is generally pretty sturdy. Are you using the stock antenna or something aftermarket?

Hey thanx for getting back to me so fast :)! Where is that screw located, and is it metric or standard (i do have both types of screwdrivers)? I have been doing some experimenting with mostly different whip antennas, so that might have made it work lose, no real biggie if i can find that screw to tighten it up. Where on the case is that? It's around the SMA connector. It's a nut actually and takes a spanner wrench to tighten it. Some people will take a small set of needlenose pliers or something similar, but that may damage the nut or threads on the connector.

If you look on Ebay or maybe Amazon you can find a "destuffing tool" like this one:

https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?mpre=https://www.ebay.com/ulk/itm/351218068154

That is what you'll need to tighten it down correctly.

I had the same issue using a Diamond SRH777CA antenna. It appears that the stock antenna screws down on top of the nut and helps keep it secure. The 777 leaves a few threads exposed and will allow the nut to work loose.

My solution was to go to the hardware store and buy a rubber washer (I wanna say it was 3/8"). It fits perfectly and helps secure the nut in place when the antenna is screwed down.

Let me know if you need a picture of the nut.

Remove the antenna and look at the base of the SMA connector on the radio.. It is a ring with two slots 180 degrees apart.

I have looked for this tool to no avail. I have two large electronic parts stores near me. I have heard it called an "e tool" and "x tool" as well I can tighten my 436 and not worry about having it repaired when I send it in for the internal clock fix.
