For those of you that have the bcd436hp and listen mainly to a 7/800 MHz system, which sma scanner antenna do you prefer to use?

I know that the scanner comes with an sma to bnc adapter, but as with all adapters, there is some signal loss associated with it. I am trying to avoid that by using an sma antenna.

While there is some signal loss when using an adapter, the figure I've seen most often is something around 0.5db. In any event, except in the most extreme case, trying to pull an extremely weak signal out of the background static, I doubt that you would notice the difference.

However, if you are still concerned, then look at the REM-820S on this page. The 820S terminates to an SMA connector, and has the o-ring like the original antenna does, to maintain the water resistant integrity of the case. The 800S, on that same page, is an SMA antenna, but no o-ring.

I've used both the 820S, as well as the REM-800B (which needs the SMA ->BNC adapter), and have not seen any noticable differance between the two.

There is not enough signal loss to make a difference. I have used the included BNC adapter ever since Uniden started using SMA connections and have not noticed any difference. Using BNC there is also less stress on the connection.

RadioShack 800 MHz it’s basically the same as the remtronix 800 just rebranded about $15 at any RadioShack dealer

Also do not use the 800s on a 436 it doesn’t fit right it’s for the sds100 only
