I was on my dinner break at work when I heard a call on the Fire Dept radio that there was a grass fire near my house! I headed down the street towards my house and soon enough FD Trucks whizzed by and I followed, they do drive kinda slow. Luckly when I got there it started to rain and a guy with a bucket of water helped to put it out!

Slow is a relative thing - some may weigh up to 60,000 lbs. And if they blow a red light or stop sign and hit someone who didn't see or hear them, while they may not be a fault, they still don't make it to your house! So they still drive "under control" so they can stop or otherwise avoid accidents while enroute.

Bottom line, "fast" for an oversized vehicle may not seem fast to you, but they have to walk the line between "as fast as YOU would like them to go" when it's your house, and "too fast to get there at all" because they got into an accident.
