Alright I now that I've got my new radio installed I'm wanting to play with APRS a bit. And it got me to thinking. I know parts of APRS relies on GPS input. That left me with a wondering, is there any way to hook your GPS enabled smart phone into my D710A and utilize that piece of tech to it's fullest? It would be nice if I could but obviously this was not a thought in the design process of this radio. Outside of that what are some good Garmin options?

A Garmin Nuvi 350 will work with the 710A, but you have to get an aftermarket cable. A very good option is the Greenlight labs GPS-710

I use my ht set to vox and a homebrew cable to my phone and I use APRSDroid. It works great. I don't know how to connect your phone to that mobile and make it work like my setup. Just thought you might check that option out too..

TNC-X has a bluetooth option for APRS for Smartphones and Tablets. They also work as a standard TNC and digipeater.

This is the setup I run... d710 with nuvi 350 and an Argent Data Cable. Great SetUp, super easy to use and I like seeing how close stations actually are to me. Oh, and the nuvi and cable can be had for under $100" which is less than the GreenLight Labs unit.
