Right now Smiley Antenna’s has a “deal of the day” today on their 160MHz slim duck. Not too bad, at all! For the newbie, these will greatly improve reception on your handheld scanners for the rail band.
And its the 5/8 wave 9" Slim Duck that is the one that was the DotD. The regular 7" Slim Duck is always 20 bucks. 5/8 SD 6db gain vs normal SD at 3 db gain... I think the extra 4 bucks is worthy of that.
as someone who uses them on fire radios, they are excellent antennas, and if you're only monitoring frequencies across a tiny bandwidth (like AAR frequencies) its probably going to be an improvement.
