Hospital Evacuated After Chemical Leak
No injuries reported

(CBS4) AURORA, Colo. The lower level of Children's Hospital was evacuated early Saturday morning after a chemical leak inside the mechanical room on the hospital's lower floor. The incident happened at 7:48 a.m.

Aurora Fire Department Capt. Mike Ackman told CBS4 the chemical was glycol, used in the air conditioning system. "Apparently the chemical leaked onto some machinery, causing a lot of smoke to be put out."

Ackman said the lower level of the hospital was evacuated, but he did not know if that included any patients. No injuries were reported.

The smoke was under control by 8:45 a.m. and evacuees were allowed to go back inside. Hazmat teams were brought in to soak up the excess coolant.

Children's Hospital moved from its old campus in Denver to the new one in Aurora on September 30.
