SN Co Topeka Fire TG Question

Is there any reason to load Topeka Fire Station Talk Groups into system? Are they ever used for anything?

If you are referring to TG 7088- this is the channel used by the dispatcher to activate the station alerting (Zetron system) speakers and lights. Then you will hear the alert tones and dispatcher put out the call.

Supposedly, the alert tone & voice dispatch is always simulcast on Fire-1, however I have found this is not always true. If you can put up with the data bursts (ducks quacking) being sent from dispatch to the stations and the response from the station back to dispatch, you won't miss a call.

I was referring to the talk group assigned to each station.

I used to carry each station's ID, but now I only carry 7088 for alert tones. I don't believe you'll hear much on the indivdual station ID's. ID's 7088, 3408, and Fire 2 (don't know right off the ID) are the main ID's to listen to. I hope this is helpful.

Thanks, in several trips to Topeka have never heard any station TG's but wanted to be sure. Just cleaning up the old scanner load and thought I would get rid of what was not needed.

Okay- as I understand the TGs "assigned" to the fire stations were never activated. That was a back-up plan in place when the old station alerting systems started failing before they put in the new Zetron system.

Well that explains why I have never heard anything. Well I have dropped all the stations out so hopefully it will scan a little faster.
