I usually listen to Baltimore County and City fire and the local precinct (8) and district (NE), but I'm wondering if there are channels besides county road department that are more active and interesting in the poor weather.

I'm thinking I might throw on the State Police Barracks M and R on the rotation tonight for the inevitable accidents on I-95, I-695 and I-83.

Any suggestions on good channels to listen to during a declared "snow emergency?"

There is a discussion beginning on Scan-DC about this very topic. I would bet the ICall/Itac freqs, the various ground op and snowplow/deicing freqs at BWI, ACARS and any mutual aid/disaster/interop talkgroups on the various trunk systems are all going to get a workout.

SHA freqs, MSP and various private tow trucks, AAA and the like may all be rendered useless if the roads get as bad as the various predictions suggest. Weather.com is saying 10-20 inches in the AA/Howard county areas, so you know the roads are going to be basically impassable for a time, at least. Don't forget about BWI and the varous trains as well, including light rail

Like I said on the Scan DC list, I don't have enough radios (hi) 73 Mike

Was actually running these InterOp freqs this the past week! Have an old scanner running full-time and haven't heard a peep. Maybe something in the next couple of days. Will advise...

Running a county PD/FD interop channel in my rotation, decided against MSP channels. County fire will cover anything worth hearing about on the interstates.

Don't forget about the old 460.05 metro channel 73 Mike

[edit] Just heard what I think is the old City main freq 154.145, but very weak and ratty. Looks like these old VHF transmitters aren't being used or maintained much anymore.

...winter storm warning now in effect until 6 am est saturday...
...blizzard warning in effect from 6 am to 6 pm est saturday...
...winter storm warning in effect from 6 pm saturday to 6 am est
sunday...

The national weather service in sterling virginia has issued a
blizzard warning...which is in effect from 6 am to 6 pm est
saturday. A winter storm warning has also been issued. This
winter storm warning for snow is in effect until 6 am saturday
morning...and again from 6 pm saturday evening until 6 am sunday
morning.

* precipitation type...snow.

* accumulations...heavy snow with accumulations of 1 to 2 feet
through saturday night.

* timing...snow will continue through early sunday morning. Snow
will be heaviest between 8 am and 6 pm saturday.

* temperatures...upper 20s to lower 30s through the event...low
to mid 30s in coastal southern maryland.

* winds...15 to 25 mph...with gusts up to 40 mph during the day
saturday.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A blizzard warning means severe winter weather conditions are
expected or occurring. Falling and blowing snow with strong winds
and poor visibilities are likely. This will lead to whiteout
conditions...making travel extremely dangerous. Do not travel. If
you must travel...have a winter survival kit with you. If you get
stranded...stay with your vehicle.

A winter storm warning means significant amounts of snow...
Sleet...and ice are expected or occurring. Strong winds are also
possible. This will make travel very hazardous or impossible.

Balt county listeners can check out the County Services trunk - that's where the snow plows seem to be. I am hearing them here in AA county, although I don't usually hear the Services trunk all that well - they're coming in pretty well here. Here's the URL from our database

Baltimore County Services Trunking System, Baltimore County, Maryland - Scanner Frequencies

Program this the same as you would the standard County system. TGs 20272, 24112 and 20144 are active, although you should note that they are used by other services normally 73 Mike

Anne Arundel County OEM and the EOC operated on SOPS 2 not the Disaster talkgroups.

AACOFD were using a Humvee today. Humvee 9, Humvee 29. I think they are the State's Humvees

Now the Humvee is getting stuck.
