Looking to find out what radio frequencies does the snowmobile trail groomers use . The last few groomers I have seen have stubby uhf antenna on them. Just not sure if they are using New York State Dec frequencies or what.

Most likely depends on the club. Back in the day I would hear local guys on CB. Guessing many moved to GMRS or cell phones.

...or FRS? MURS? Given it was mentioned the antennas are on the short side, I'm leaning towards MURS

It really depends on the group. Groomers in the Town of Webb (Herkimer County) are owned and operated by the town so they likely have town radios. And as mentioned, many different answers.

If they're close enough to see their antennas have you tried picking them up using 'Close Call'?

Short answer is most of them don't have 2way radios in them. Some of the larger clubs may have county radios in them for public safety coordination. That is a County by County thing. Others may have the Groomer proximity beacon. As mentioned Town of Webb/Inlet trails are professionally groomed, they have UHF radios, frequency is in the database for Herkimer County.
