"Snub Nose" dual band antenna for Yaesu small radio

I carry a small Yaesu FT-60r on the subway everyday into Manhattan and so I like a compact antenna. I picked up a Diamond SRH805S on ebay for a few bucks. It says 144/430 with wide band receive. I put it on the radio and can hit a repeater in Manhattan from Brooklyn (10 miles+/-). I also listen to the PD (which is on 470.xxx so it works great. I never loved an antenna before.

Anyone ever use one of these tiny antennas?

5 watts, but to be honest, I don't talk on it much, I monitor more. I carry it "just in case" I need to use it. It's like a pistol, you only carry it to fight your way back to your rifle.

I bought one a few years ago. Not a bad 800 scanner antenna but is useless for HAM in my area.

I prefer this antenna.

Does your Comet work on 800? Doesn't need to be too sensitive... just looking for something stealthy for my 396.

Yes it does extremely well in my area. I bought it back in the 90's and have had it on several scanners.

Here is the CH-32's extended receive range:

118 -160 MHz.
250 - 290 MHz.
360 - 390 MHz.
420 - 470 MHz.
820 - 960 MHz.
1260 -1300 MHz.

I use the maldol MH-255 and the MH-209 on my vx6r and they work great!
Fyi- the 255 is a commercial dual band antenna.

These antennas are a compromise between compactness, & performance. I find when trying to use them on ham freq's, they don;t work so good, unless the repeater is nearby. Of course, when using these micro antennas to monitor a county wide system with tall towers, & multi sites, they work OK. So if you want maximum performance on ham repeaters, don't use these. But if compactness is the prime concern, & you don't care about performance, then they are OK. GARY N4KVE

I have both the mh-209 & mh-255 and love them both. I sat in Universal and tried about every ht antenna they had on my ft-60 and the mh-209 performed very well compared to other stubby antennas.

Exactly! I haven't found a better one yet for my vx-6r

I have a Miracle Baby antenna .. and yes it works quite well on 800 MHz but is useless on 2m / 70 cm.
