So What is the Final Answer???

After all the threads and theories on the detroit system, and why no one can hear it very well despite the closness to detroit, or antenna, or firmware, what is the final answer to the question why? I don't hear anything lately. Not even the choppy now and then transmissions.

As mentioned, it's being researched by the scannermakers. I don't know that anyone can say "why" until a fix comes about...

A very knowledgeable friend, claims it is because all of Detroit's antennas face inward, toward the city. Being very directional, this might make sense, as you would be trying to listen off the back of the towers if you lived outside the city limits.

For some reason I cant imagine detroits antennas being directional bill. For them to be directional they would have to be just outside the city limits for them to be affective. Thousands of mobiles and portables roam every where. It would only make sense to have omni directional antennas. Besides Ive been down in the city numerous times now and my PRO-2096 is truck mounted. Still the same old choppiness.

The antenna explanation is incorrect - there is something different about Michingan's subsystems that is not being correctly utilized by the scanners.
