So, what's up with the Kalamazoo encryption?

I'm just wondering because I've still been able to hear everything that I've always heard since they went digital. Are there still plans on just encrypting certain talkgroups? It seems kind of strange that they would throw around this idea for awhile and then just scrap it.

Also, does anyone here know the current talkgroup ID's for the County Sheriff Department? It seems like I've heard the dispatch and officers on several different ones. The database still isn't listing any.

Regarding encryption nothing formal but, it appears some radios traffic is encrypted on common talkgroups. Doesn't appear as if everything on the TG is encrypted. Even when hearing encrypted traffic on a TG, dispatch from what I can tell appears to be unencrypted. I hear this on County, City and Township. There was a rumor a while back, in the forum, that everything was going encrypted. But along with that it was stated City wouldn't be converting their old Analogue to Digital... which they did last week or the week before so take the rumor as you may. My gut feeling is, it is just a matter of time before we won't be able to hear too much of anything from the city, county or township. In fact this alone is the reason I have not purchased the new Uniden.

In my opinion the db is up to date for the county. I haven't heard too much that hasn't matched up within reason. Maybe try a different tower if you’re not hearing much traffic.

Kal County

The RR database with the talk groups for Kal. City, County and Twp are correct also the ones on Les Butlers site. Make sure you have the Plainwell and Adams Park Towers programed in. I know these are correct as I just retired from the City of Kalamazoo.
