Is this really part of Comm Enterprises or a separate single channel LTR system? Watching LTR Analyzer I don't see any other LCN references other than the channel currently on. The conversation was in Spanish but each time a user keys up it shows a different talkgroup. 1-15-250 is the base side.

See below for talkgroups:

I am monitoring this from Moreno Valley, CA. Any ideas?

508.4375 does appears to be part of the Comm Enterprises TRS Scanner Frequencies: Comm Enterprises Trunking System, Sierra Peak, California

As I monitor 508.4375, the home channel for 115 TG's, the Base TG is 115250 and he talks to the mobile trash trucks on all other 115xxx TG's.

The last Cal. moderator did not list any of them though.

I understand now, I'll listen to the other frqs on 5460 to see if they have any 115 TG's active on them.

This is interesting, I'll check it out, but look at the TG's for 5459, maybe 508.4375 is really part of that TRS.

I'm not from the area, but I'll venture a guess based on similar systems I've monitored.

Yes, I bet it is a single channel LTR system.

I've heard and noticed that occasionally LTR Standard is used like a form of tone squelch and unit ID signalling system (normally the alternative would be MDC1200, DTMF tones, etc). Each mobile radio is assigned a talkgroup labeled with their unit ID.

Either everyone scans all the talkgroups, or mobiles are only programmed with the dispatcher's talkgroup ID and the dispatcher can scan all the talkgroups (a common taxi company configuration).

Bascially they're using the LTR CH15 Home repeater as a regular repeater (if everyone can hear everyone this is totally bypassing the intention of a trunked system!), and the LTR talkgroups are just being used as individual radio IDs.

Just a guess, but I've seen it done before. I don't know what the advantage is to jerry-rigging the LTR system this way though... maybe it's cheaper?

Regards,

Inigo

EDIT: I've seen the above setup used by garbage companies in the bay area with spanish speaking drivers also! I wonder why it's so popular among them?

I monitored the MS Airwaves system and it still has the 115 spanish speakers on 472.2625.
Hmm... I guess 508.4375 may be a separate system?

By the way on the Comm Enterprises system some of the freqs are quite weak and the others full scale at my location. I tell ya...this LTR stuff can be very confusing when it comes to finding out who the freqs are licensed to
