Software for Radio Shack PRO-2006 w/Optoscan 456 Board

What software is available that can be used with this scanner?

Since the discriminator is already tapped, can I use the Trunker software and the Optocan 456's RS232C output directly connected to computer without a data slicer? (Is a data slicer already built into the Opto 456?).

Any help will be appreciated.

I have a Pro2042 with the OS535 board and use Probe Ver 4 from Datafile Inc. This is not a trunker type application but strictly for scanning and it works great for conventional scanning and runs on IBM or MS DOS. Probe is up to Ver 7 which I think came out in 2002. Perhaps I will upgrade eventually. There are other software vendors - I think ScanStar or ScanCat and ScanWear & perhaps others offer scanning software for these Opto I/F boards. The google search engine is great for finding what you need on the web. I will be looking into a trunker application soon also - perhaps Unitrunker when it is released after beta testing. You can not access the tap through the RS-232 port, or any part using the OS456 board.
You will have to make a separate tap and YES you will have to use a data slicer.
I tapped to TP2 and used the tape record jack on the back for my tap.

For using the OS456 board, Probe v7.0 is now available.

Optoscan C# Library for .NET 2.0

I am working on a library for Controlling the Optoscan 456 board. I have had the scanner for over 10 years and finally starting this project. I have the control API worked out and I am starting a program for WIN XP. It works with standard USB to serial cables or a PC com port.

While Probe is superb software, it's DOS based - which means it cannot access the soundcard to do recording. Radiomax (which is found on our recording software wiki page) is a windows app (works nicely with XP, according to a recent John Catalano review in MT) and can record. Other software includes Radio Manager (the original 16 bit version, not the 2004 version) and ScannerWear (which as I understand it, is available from the R10 Yahoo group - tho I understand it asks for a registration number - I don't know how folks get around that...)

I tried ScanCat Gold newest version on my new PC. I tried it with an USB-to-serial adapter. I was smart enough to make a image of the computer before I installed it. while I was running it, it killed my PC. upon reboot, I restored it to the image I made before. it wasn't very stable.
