Hello, I am seeking help in trying to figure out what would be the best program to be able to program my BCD996P2 I have used FreeSCAN but I just do not like it and ARC-Xt gives me an issue that it continues to say it can’t find my serial port after trying to install Uniden USB ports.

If your software can't find your serial port, go to Device Manager and verify which port is in use. Then go to the software's configuration and point it to that port. As Windows likes to play with USB ports when you aren't looking, you might have to do that every time you want to program your scanner.

Have you tried turning your computer off then back on? With ARC programs, I've seen several occasions where some software has "captured" a software port and then ARC tries to use that same port. Cycling power releases com ports and then things started working as they should.

Try to connect your scanner, turn it on(you should hear the audio chime in windows saying it connected), and then run the software. I have a similar issue with programs unless I have the scanner connected and on prior to running the programs.

if you are having a communication issue with the scanner and not some issue from the program side, you may want to plug in your scanner and use the device manager to manually install the driver updates. just make sure you extract the files before you attempt this.

You said you don't like Freescan but it sounds like it worked with regards to reading/writing to the scanner, correct? If so, is it the same computer and same windows version?
Do you have an older Uniden USB cable? There was an issue with early Uniden USB cables that stopped working when you upgraded to Windows 10. I don't know if they were ever shipped with 996P2 but I had a number of them that I had to replace after I installed Windows 10.
