"someone" spent a boat-load of time, expertise and probably some ca$h (application development software, etc) to create it (Win500).

Buy it and support it....believe me, it was worth it for me.

Nothing is "free". Even if there is no charge, it costs someone something tangibile to produce it.

Not like it's $900 or something.... (just sayin')

Yep, one of the caveats of relatively cheap 106's and 197's is you have to buy pretty much everything else that goes along with them.

Why is it a caveat? Wouldn't you rather have every accessory that you should have when purchasing any radio? It is a no brainer to purchase all the accessories at time of purchase. I do it all the time. Buy the scanner, get the programming cable (unless you already have one) and extra batteries (and quality charger, unless you have one).

You invest in a radio by purchasing it and any needed accessory. And to some who want to take the cheap way out don't bother buying the programming cable and batteries and think they can get away with it fine. You still have to learn how to program if you're out on the road to put in a system in a new town and don't have the cable. I'd rather have it all.

And another vote of confidence in Win500.

I think his point was that they don't come with much in the way of accessories included with the radio, and you have to buy them separately, unlike say the GRE PSR500, which comes with the accesories like the power supply, etc...

well, that certainly gives the OP a second choice. Wasn't trying to imply anything on the order of 'it's better than" something else, just that MY experience with Win500 is excellent.

Works well for me....
