Do you have one of those 1000 (or more) memory channel scanners or receivers? Does it get tedious having to reprogram these radios after a while? Are you ready to see just what other function(s) may be available in your radio? Do you want to create and keep logs and recordings of what you hear?

If the answer is yes to any of these questions, then it's likely you're ready to explore the various software offerings that exist for many scanners and receivers. Some scanners can be directly controlled, and have the ability to log what is heard (Uniden, AOR, Icom), while others only support up/downloading operations (RS/GRE).

Each scanner manufacturer's page is outlined by model; select your model by clicking on the appropriate link.The last includes some software that doesn't fit into these categories, or serves as a quick reference spot for some of the most popular software. Be sure to check these pages carefully, and evaluate them against your PC, scanner and system before you buy. Some have Yahoo groups that support the software; these enable you to ask questions before youbuy. Be sure to read any of the reviews that are linked on these pages. We also have a downloads page that houses some older versions of software.

Mike,

You put in a lot of work on that. I hope that you don't remove the page that keeps all (most) of the software in one spot. To me it is more concise and to the point if you are looking for software. I am talking about the Radio Control Software page.

Also IMHO you could have left the eBay lists of currently for sale items off. If someone wants to buy from eBay, they know how to look things up; eBay does not need RR advertising for them (especially for nothing.)

Well it seems the EBay link has something of a split; some don't mind it, others do. I didn't want to put it on there, but The Boss said to.....

Anyway, the Radio Control Software page is going nowhere. Everyone has their own preference, of course; to me it's logical to put software links on the receiver's page. After all, the question usually starts 'I have a [put your favorite make/model here]. Is there software for it?' But, yes the other page is a little broader in its scope, since it also has links to receivers we haven't got a page for as yet, and is concise.

Robert, I saw your other post on the CA forum. You really need to let those guys give you a hand as the LA area is tough to advise on from a distance. In any case, between the local help and what you can get if you ask in the Uniden forum, you would probably get on your way pretty quick.

Most radios that allow computer control (like all the Uniden built ones) just use a serial cable. Sometimes it has an different end (on the radio side) for the handhelds but since the cable comes with the radio it is not much of an issue. The base/mobile ones just use a regular serial cable, no pin-out mystery.

Details of the cables could help people in other countries...Uniden often don't supply the cables with the radios outside the US market.

However, this is detail for a radio page rather than the software page really?

Just a FYI....
With the new 3.0 implementation, editing the wiki no longer needs a seperate login. If you have a link you think is useful, don't be shy about adding it!

Given that a manual does not exist for this software, would a Wiki page be appropriate to assist users in programming this radio? I say yes but wanted a concensus to see if I am wasting my time...
