I heard there was software out there that can turn your computer into a transceiver is this true or did I mishear? If its true does anyone have links to them?

It's not just software, there still is a need for hardware.

Google "sdr transceiver"
Lots of folks have been experimenting with SDR receivers for the DMR modes (TRBO, IDAS, NXDN)

I heard there was software out there that can turn your computer into a transceiver is this true or did I mishear? If its true does anyone have links to them?

Yes I did a few minutes ago. Not sure which one will fit what im looking to do.

I think Flex radio is probably the only plug and play computer based HF transceiver out there and you can get started for under $500 used. I have a Flex-1500, which is a 5w QRP rig that covers 160 through 6m and it has a world class receiver and sounds excellent on transmit. There are other ways to do an SDR transceiver but that usually involves running Linux and cobbling together amplifiers and filters to get any useable power on transmit.

Hello, I use Echolink. It takes a little bit to understand. Once you do it is quite fun. I made contact this week with a gentleman who was 60 miles south of London using Echolink on my android phone. The possibilities are endless is seems.
