Are there any rumors about someone writing some software for the 1098,1095,1080 and the 1088?? Is anyone heard that Don Starr thought about this. The software from Whistler is difficult to use.

While Don Starr did write the firmware for these scanners, he did not write the software.Considering that Don Starr wrote the GRE/Whistler EZ-Scan software ...

That's good to know - I've always found Don's software to work quite well. The less I have to use EZScan / iScan the better. Maybe some day we'll see some updates to correct the problems.
.. and a new set of drivers it would probably work just fine - unfortunately, I haven't seen an update in a long time.
You will not see drivers .. as Whistler / GRE do not use their own drivers. It uses the Windows USB drivers already on the machine.
If you have problems .. it is your pc and not the scanner that is the issue.
I'm referring to the "USB RS-232 Emulation Driver" from RS, which is installed with their software. But, I will agree, given Microsoft's reliability these days, it may be an issue on their side. None the less, it makes using the software very annoying.
Well, I don't know what to tell you - but my setup certainly installs a USB driver...
It really doesn't .. it does some configuration of the existing Windows USB driver. So if you call that an install .. then so be it.
