I was in the need for a enclosed, desktop switching power supply from a known manufacture (no, no-name wonders for a Kenwood mobile dual band rtadio. I didn't want anything with meters or anything 'fancy' (as in more cost). Also from a dealer near me as opposed to someone 2,000 miles away (less shipping time & expense). ;)

A search brought me to this and this dealer;

Specs;
13.8vdc, 13 amp,
completely enclosed so a radio can be placed on top of it,
a front panel power switch,
switching (almost no power draw when off),
no fan,
removable power cord (thou it isn't supplied),
THREE year warranty,
well know (in PS's) manufacture; Mean Well
rear panel external adjustable voltage

That fit the bill and it was in stock which wasn't the case with a number of other suppliers. One had a 14 WEEK lead time. :eek: The only negative was the lack of a power cord, but I had plenty. ;)

There are plenty of other similar models with higher current capacities. Hope this helps others with similar needs!

I see the "Mean Well" name on the cut sheet. Mean Well is a known name in switching power supplies. I don't know whether or not the particular supply generates excessive RF noise or not.

I'd stick with Astron or Samlex and I'd buy it from an online amateur radio dealer such as Ham Radio Outlet, DX Engineering, GigaParts, R & L Electronics, or MTC Radio.

I've dealt with Mean Well before, they are known for rack type of supplies, ones with a fully vented enclosure to be placed out of the way as opposed to on a bench. I had to check a few dealers, some were out of stock and one (Jameco) had a 14 week wait time. And note, I stated "inexpensive", not cheap.

I haven't done business with Amazon in 2 years or so, I prefer to deal with actual dealers and/or suppliers! ;)

Here are interior shots of the PS. One thing that does trouble me is the choice of a 'fuse' they used (last attachment). (n) ;
