I’ve noted some discrepancies between Radio Reference Database (DB) and the new Southern NV Radio Scanner Book Feb 2009 8th Edition for the following Nevada Shared Radio System sites: Sloan, Jean, and Opal Mountain. Please note that the date of the Radio Reference database is March 01, 2009. Beyond the site just mentioned, there may be other sites that I’ve missed. I’ve also included Primm because the Southern NV Radio Scanner Book does not list Primm. This thread is not intended to be critical of either Radio Reference or Southern NV Radio Scanner Book. I find both organizations to be an extremely valuable source of information. I’m simple asking any one who has personal knowledge of the sites as to correctness of the information. I’ve listed below the frequencies by sites and the source of the site information. You will note there are differences between the Radio Reference and Southern NV Radio Scanner Book. For example, Southern NV Radio Scanner Book list two (2) additional frequencies for Sloan (Radio Reference list 8 frequencies and Southern NV Radio Scanner Book list 10 frequencies for the site). With regard to Jean and Opal Mountain, there appears to be no disagreement of frequencies between the two sources. With regard to Primm, I loaded the frequencies recommend by Radio Reference and monitored for several hours on several different occasions. I personally have never heard anything using these frequencies. I know other people in forum have previously indicated they have heard Primm. I will not debate this. I simple want to know if the people who do hear the Primm site are (1) using the frequencies recommended by Radio Reference (look below for current frequency list recommended by RR), (2) they are monitoring only the Primm site so not to be confused with another site’s reception, and (3) they are monitoring the Primm site at or near Primm (Stateline). Any comments and feedback about the two sources mentioned here are requested.

I don't know if you realize this or not but the Southern NV book publishers and the rrdb people are not the same and in fact the book people are trying to sell something so they do not contribute to the rrdb. As a deterent to copyright they list some freqs or info that is like a trigger and if that info shows up on rrdb they will sue rrdb. So don't go thru the recent edition and post all the differences ok? Just learn to accept different sources for what you want and go from there. I agree I wish the info most current was the rrdb but not in this case. Do you understand?

I suspect that the book is using the site labeled "Big Horn" for the area near Stateline which some people call Primm. Bighorn is located 1.9 miles East of Primm. It must be the same.

Actually Bighorn is 1.9 km, not miles East of Primm. Some locations may be known by two different names.

What I would recommend if you are concerned about RR being incorrect is this: After you have monitored and confirmed any errors in our DB, submit corrections without mentioning in your post where you got your alternate information. If the information is available through monitoring, CloseCall, or other public means, then copyright will not be an issue. If you mention the "other" source in writing, that opens the copyright issue. If you cannot hear any traffic on the frequencies, then perhaps they are the incorrect ones, and may be the 'false flag' frequencies that 737mech was talking about, assuming that is a true business practice (not disputing, just don't have any firsthand knowledge that is done).

Our primary concern is going to be that your information is accurate and is not embroiling the site in a copyright infringement case. We don't need to know the source of your information. We DO need to be able to assume that the submissions have been confirmed by monitoring or another ironclad method (agency list, employee, etc), and we must assume that the information posted here was obtained in a legal manner, unless there are flags raised by the submission.

I hope this provides a little bit of guidance without opening a large can of worms.

DB Differences

Duster, thanks for the feedback and recommendation. I did not intend by my thread to start a copyright infringement problem for RR. When the opportunity arises, I will try to independently monitor and verify the sites that I mentioned in my thread. Again, I think both RadioReference and the Scanner Book are good sources of information. My apologies for creating any problems for RR.

No problem. I'm sure we have inaccuracies, and we rely on the users to help us correct them. We just have to be careful about sources.

Happy monitoring!!

Primm

I get all Primm info from RR and it is active with NHP traffic. Using 996 on 3-1-2009!
