Some encryption on TxWARM

Some of the talk groups such as the Houston High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area are marked on this site as encrypted, but I hear some radios that are not. I will usually hear one or two radios and the rest will be ENC........so I will hear only bits and pieces of what is going on. I wonder if this is an error on the radio techs end or if they just don't bother to encrypt all the radios on those talk groups. I worry that we will be experiencing this on the primary dispatch channels once they are switched to P25. From what I hear this is happening in other parts of the county. I will say I have not seen this with Montgomery or Austin counties.

On most encryption-capable radios there is a switch on the top of the radio. It can be used by the individual radio user to turn encryption on and off - and sometimes they flip the switch by accident. This is what you are experiencing.

Yup. User selectable encryption + digital voice + human fallibility = happy scanning.
