• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

Some FCC CB radio enforcement going on….

It was either nailed to a utility pole in front of the guy's house or posted on the FCC's web site since it's public information.

I am a lineman for the county.
Where and how did you get this letter? It appears to have been mailed to this person, so how did you find this?

If you want, sign up here:

That'll give you a daily e-mail with most of the FCC actions. A lot of it is useless fluff, unless you are into Media Bureau, Wireline Competition, and boring legal stuff.
Then there's the periodic Enforcement Actions
Ex Parte Presentations can be interesting if you stick with it. Most of it is totally unrelated to the hobby, but periodically there is stuff of interest regarding new technologies, new equipment, etc.

Or, just rummage around on this page: RSS Feeds and Email Updates from the FCC

I didn't think this was still a thing. In the mid 90s I was heavy into CBs and there were many users in the area. Some radios were modified and some had linears or other boosters on their radios. Sometimes, those with more powerful radios would lockdown the channel by doing what is described in this letter. My guess is that this person is a frequent offender which caused complaints to the FCC who investigated and validated the complaint. My favorite was a person who operated on Channel 22 calling himself Missionary Man. He had a radio with a 500 watt linear and would give Sunday sermons. My wife, who I was not with at the time and has nothing to do with my monitoring hobbies, knew who this clown was as he would bleed over into her FM radio. She lived about 2 miles from him.

Back in the 70's, S9 magazine would publish recent FCC violations in a monthly column. The FCC was more active in pursuing rogue stations in those days.

There's a special kind of dumb that will do this enough to get caught by the FCC on CB radio. Would love to know what lead to this person getting turned in.
He IS a special kind of dumb.....I was in a relationship with him for 11 years. He is the poster child for Narcissistic Personality Disorder. He is abusive too. Good to know he's back in Illinois and not in the same state I am anymore. His parents live in Rockford. Obviously he hasn't learned his lesson, this is not his first run-in with FCC. He won't stop, he will just move to another address when he gets kicked out of where he's living now, set up another base antenna, hook up his power and do it again. He is notorious for this in Portland Oregon. He has had his coax pinned, cut and antenna yanked down numerous times and had several restraining orders against him by other CBers as well as an ex and her family. Want to know what he is really like.....Google his name and read about the McDonald's incident in Portland/Gresham Oregon. That will tell you all you need to know about him 😂. My condolences to anyone who encounters him. I have 11 years of dirt on him.

That usually depends on what Mr. Leon does.
If he owns up to it, says he's sorry with sugar on top and promises to never do it again, he'll probably get a written warning.

Usually when people ignore the FCC, keep doing it, or generally get a case of the stupids, the FCC will gladly remind them with a hefty fine that may or may not get collected, but tends to look poorly on ones record.
He's been fined in the past, he didn't pay it, I believe it was $14,000 if I remember correctly. He could care less if he gets fined, and it won't stop him.

If you get ahold of old CB magazines like S9 from the 70's you'll see a column on ops who got "tickets" from the FCC.

He's obviously mentally ill. Nothing can really be done this side of imprisonment (that's not going to happen) or death (I dont advocate that by non-natural causes.)

So. Living with him is the only realistic option.

My advice, move along folks, move along.
