I just picked up a Yeasu ft-101e for $100.00 it may or may not have a power supply problem. The ham that I got the 101e from told me that the radio was working just fine, then wile tuning the finals the main fuse popped. He put a 4 amp fuse in and it popped again. The manual calls for a 5 amp fuse when wired for 117vac. The radio is trying to work on the 5 amp fuse. things start lighting up and there is sound for a split second before the fuse popes again. If I just turn the heaters on with the main power off the fuse does not pop. My gut tells me to post this question before trying it. The book that I downloaded says a 5 amp fuse. Given what the radio is doing. Could the copy of the book that I have be wrong on the size (amp wise) of the fuse? Maby the radio just needs a higher amp fuse, like a 7 or 8 amp fuse

It's very unlikely that the book has a mistake in it. It is more likely that there is something wrong with radio.

the fault tree in the ft-101e service manual refers to check the "xfmr tap setting". I have the service manual in a pdf file and a search of the manual comes up with a blank for "xfmr". What does "xfmr" stand for? I am stumped

I'm guessing you're a beginner at this. Xfmr means transformer. I'm not sure what exactly you need to do,but since you sound unsure about what you need to do, I'll say BE VERY CAREFUL YOU DON'T ZAP YOURSELF OR FRY YOUR RADIO.

You may want to check out this site: Service Manual

Good luck and be careful.
