Just thought I'd update you all on my new mobile installations. I don't have the memory card with me at the moment unfortunately but I will definately post the pictures tomorrow morning.

Since then I have obtained my General Class Amatuer Radio License and have two new vehicles the wife and I share. We have a 2008 civic sedan and a 2007 suzuki xl-7 suv. I also though I'd post to possibly give some installation ideas on these not so radio friendly cars. Luckily I had some help due to the fact that a friend of mine takes care of all the mobile installations at the local sheriff's office he is a deputy for.

2008 Honda Civic Lx

Here is the install for the Civic. I have a trunk lip mount antenna (wife didn't want me to drill holes), Icom 880h D-Star transceiver mounted under the passenger seat, the control head under the fm radio using the icom mb120 mount. Under the control head is the speaker. Radio is grounded under the seat and the lead is pulled directly from the battery.

2007 Suzuki XL-7

Here are the photos of the suv's install. The antenna I am using is a Larsen dual band (2m/70cm) window mount antenna. It works very well and I have excellent range even with the factory window tint. I have the Icom 880h mounted under the passenger seat, the control head above the rear view mirror, and the speaker under the cup holders.

All of those installs show a little forethought and effort. Probably took a little time also but it's sure worth
it in the end. A lot of people ask here how to install such and such in this or that vehicle. While thats not a problem, I admire someone that looks the entire vehicle over and makes work with what they have (with a little custom fab thrown in).

I see your radios look like they are lying loose under the seats. If they slide around, that could be annoying or possible cause cable problems. A quick fix is some hook side velcro on the radio to grab the carpet. What I have done also is slide some 1/2" plywood, about the size of the radio, under the carpet and then use some 5/8" screws to secure the mounting bracket to the plywood. With the carpet sandwiched between the bracket and plywood, this is a surprisingly sturdy, non-skid mount (if the clearance under the seat allows it). Sell the car? Pull it out, brush up the carpet nap and nobody will even know it was there.

Already thought of . Both radios are velcroed down. Thanks for all the comments. The seat didn't want to come out of the SUV, but other than that, each vehicle took about 2 hours.
