I am interested in starting in Ham Radio/Amateur Radio but I am unsure where to start, What equipment I need etc. I am currently a volunteer fire fighter and Storm Chaser

Wirelessly posted (Moto Droid Bionic: Mozilla/5.0 (Linux; U; Android 4.0.4; en-us; DROID BIONIC Build/6.7.2-223_DBN_M4-23) AppleWebKit/534.30 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/4.0 Mobile Safari/534.30)

Start at arrl.org for an intro to the hobby. Both training materials and lists of local radio clubs are available. Most clubs offer classes. Your county OEM + EOC (RACES + ARES) should be a good resource. I webbied the k2eoc.org -- optimized for smartphone on up -- site; check out the Resources & Links page for more info including a link to the CFR. HTH.

Do as the others have said, but also look for a local Ham Club. Great people there and they will love having you. You will learn a ton from these people and you should be able to find someone who will take you under their wing and help you along. Also it is a great place to see the equipment that others have and see how it is used.

I took all thes guys advice and got in touch with my local ham club and they took me under their wing. I took their classes and I test this Wednesday. It isn't particularly hard stuff but it does include a lot of memory, so study often.
