Anyone using the Sony 2010 for SSB utilities and ham DX? This is my only SW receiver and, other than 100 Khz increments, I find it outstanding for weak SSB signals. 95% of the time, it tunes fine enough. I only use a 20 foot wire attached to the whip antenna.

I just got my Sony 2010 out yesterday. I have had it in the box for years. I am listening now to 1100.7am. It is very interesting as they are having a talk show about atleast 5 major hurricanes worse than last year. 17 total hurricanes and they are talking of major earthquakes and etc. I do not want to sound like doom and gloom but things like this is interesting to me. I am not sure what station this is broadcasting.

I was listening to 80 meters(lsb) but it was just to borring. This station is called coast to coast am. I only have the antenna that came with the 2010 and what antenna should i get to go with this? I was reading where maybe it could be bad using an outside antenna with the 2010. Is this true?

Is your wire running outside? I am in the process of putting up a scanner bean, so i would like a wire for the 2010 also. I love the 2010 but i just haven't listened lately to shortwave and just now getting back into it.

And given how sensitive that radio is to static discharges, shorter is defintely better. I'd join the Utility DXers Forum over on Yahoo and see if there are other 2010 users there; there's also a suprisingly active Yahoo group for the 2010 there as well. Both are possible sources of info. 73s Mike

Not sure where you are but you probably were listening to 1100 WTAM Cleveland Ohio. That show is a syndicaded program broadcast from several stations across the country. Try WHAS 840 Louisville Ky and i thank WBAP 810 in Texas has the show. I have never owned the 2010 but heard good things about it for yrs. I heard from several places it has a diode that will blow if overloaded with to much signal or static electric. I would try a short wire maybe 16 or 18 gauge about 16 to 20 ft long inside the house with an aligator clip to the pull up antenna. Should help without overloading to much.
