Hi Folks,

Has anyone out there ever seen a walk-thur for programing radios? Obviously it would have to be model specific but I was just wondering??

I guess you could clone it if you knew someone in your area with the same set but is there a general walk - thru or how-to procedure for stuff like that?

Of course in my case, I'm a newbie who just got a FT-2900R and I do have the manual. But has anyone ever seen a posting like: " Here's the best steps or a recommended way to program a channel or repeater in to a 2900R"

I get that you enter the freq, save it to a memory, add the offset, etc ....


I found this so it might be an example:

See !! I mean that posting is pretty sweet and everything is there so it's kind of handy ....

Are there other places or people out there who have done the same thing but for different radios?

Hi Dave,

Every radio, programs differently, whether from the keyboard or software, some companies even use different terms for the same function.

The 'best' way to program a radio is kinda like asking 100 people what the best shoe is. You will likely get 100 different answers.

The 'best' way to program the radio is how you want it set up. Not how any of us think you should.

There is an open source software project called Chirp that supports many of the most popular radios today and has a pretty descent following of people that help new users. It may be worth a look to see if it suits your needs. Of course this is one man's opinion based on his experience; but it seems that Chirp has been very helpful to those new folks that I've spoken with.

Chirp is also handy if you have several brands of radios and want them all programmed the same. My D-710 matches my UV-5r+, which matches my IC-2720, and my IC-T7h..

Having the same channel lineup in all your radios keeps the brainfart factor low..

Programming walk thur

Hi Guys,

kayn1n32008 - Oh yea I get that, every radio will be different I was just wondering if anyone has ever done one like that guy made for the Wouxun. Obviously each radio will be unique but I guess I'm asking the question in general - do people make such documents about walk-thru's or how-to's and then about that specific radio? The one that guy made is pretty handy IMHO .....

aaron315 - Yep, already d/l Chirp and ordered a cable from china - I may just call Ray at NTF and see if he carries RT Systems software and cable ..... I may break down and order that as well, I know it's way easier to program up the set via the software but I still think a little one page - how-to would be handy.

As a noob I'm pooched right now on how to set one up. Hell, I can't even spell DTMF (grin) but eventually after I play with it a bit ..... I think I'll create a little one pager on how to add a channel to the radio and save it and label it and do another on adding a repeater - once I get the steps down. Can't hurt!
