When I click on South Bend/ St. Joe countys SAFE-T towers site #228 it shows FCC licence is expired does that mean it will not be used soon or are they waiting to get it renewed? That would suck because I get all my SAFE-T traffic off that tower. Does anybody know whats going on? thanks SCOTTER

I think that would be an error, the system hasn't been up long enough to have the license expire.

I hope so

I hope so I just thought it was strange that when I clicked on tower site it said it was. Things up here are bad the jerks that run the county are talking about laying off police and fireman what a joke.

Special Temporary Authorizations

The license listed in the RadioReference database could very well be expired, but it probably is not the license the site is currently operating on. There were a bunch of special temporary authorizations issued at one time, most if not all of which are expired now. A bunch of those are the callsigns listed in the RR database, as it has not been updated with all the current callsigns.

For example, the Greenwood site, which currently operates under the callsign WNXG591 (see location 2 under the locations tab) is listed in the RR database as operating under the call WPYE544, which shows expired according to the FCC database. You'll see that the callsign WPYE544 was a "Special Temporary" authorization type while WNXG591 is a "Regular" authorization type. I'll bet it's the same deal for the South Bend site.

So, in short, its the RR database that needs updating, not the licenses that need renewing. I'm sure the IPSC has a good handle on when their licenses expire, and probably wouldn't let a site's license lapse. They seem to be pretty organized where their licensing is concerned.

There are likely hundreds of business and public safety licenses nationwide that actually are expired and nobody seems to care. Some run on expired licenses for years not having a clue that the licenses are no longer valid. Some don't even know they need a license. Chances are, the FCC won't get involved or even be aware of the unauthorized operation until somebody files a complaint about it. It's not like the amateur service where we acually care about what the rules are and know that we have to have a license, have to identify, and soforth. Its unbelievable how many business and public safety users don't even identify anymore, especially on conventional where often, there is no automatic identifier set up.

This is the case, I need to clean them up when I get some free time, unless someone wants to help and submit the wrong ones with the right ones :D
