• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

Looking to see if anyone knows of a repeater in the suburban Philadelphia area, or would be interested in helping me put one up. GMRS is pretty quiet around here, although I do know of quite a few people with licenses in the area.

Hello,

Have you checked the mygmrs.com database? The database shows three repeaters in the Philly area. One in Aston, PA, one in Norristown, PA and one in Wynnewood, PA. Hope this helps out.

Also on a side not, a quick check of the FCC database shows 128 licensed GMRS users with a Philadelphia address.

Checking myGMRS.com was the first thing I did. I would not have posted here without checking it.

The Aston repeater has been inactive, or at least for the 3 weeks I've been listening to the freq.
The Norristown repeater is for a town watch that I'm not a part of.
The Wynnewood repeater is for a radio network that I'm also not a part of.

And I know there are a lot of GMRS licenses out there, which is why I posted here.

Thanks.

Try contacting the owners of all three of them. I run the Central Jersey Radio Network that the Wynnewood site is part of, and you don't need to be a member to use it. If you request permission through our website at Central Jersey Radio Group, you'll automatically be granted permission for all of the repeaters we manage. All the repeaters are free to use, although each owner may have their own rules like hour restrictions (no calls after 11pm, for example).

I've talked to the owner of the Norristown repeater, and he doesn't mind occasional users on the system, but contact him first before jumping on. I never used this system or the Aston system yet.

The owner of the Wynnewood repeater is Anthony WQFF822, and another frequent user is Mark. Just put your callsign out over the air and ask for one of them. Whenever I visit Cherry Hill, NJ I talk on the Wynnewood repeater as much as possible.
