Probably wouldn't have noticed had it not been for traffic on the system being repeated on FOX 4 news desk frequency (450.3125) and several TXDPS frequencies on Tuesday night, Wedensday morning. That incident still remains a mystery, but to whoever was responsible, thanks for the heads up! Two control channels are still transmitting, but the four using agencies are in conventional repeater mode:

DeSoto PD is on: 453.3625 131.8

Cedar Hill PD is on: 460.0375 131.8

Regional Fire is on: 460.2375 131.8

Duncanville PD is on: 453.3125 131.8 and simulcasting on 158.7900 114.8

Control channels still up on: 453.5875 & 460.4625

MDCs on 460.2875 & 460.3125

Word on the street is that the system didn't pass final inspection and is being scrapped in favor of another unproven and non-interoperable Kenwood digital system. You would have throught they had learned their lesson.

Ha! I sure wish I could have caught that, as well as the inquiries from the other agencies about who was on their channel!

System control channels are gone. Lots of testing today on primary and secondary repeater channels. Here is a breakdown of what I have been able to figure out:

DeSoto PD Channel 1: 453.3625 131.8

DeSoto PD Channel 2: 453.5875 131.8 (unconfirmed)

Cedar Hill PD Channel 1: 460.0375 131.8

Cedar Hill PD Channel 2: 460.1625 131.8

Duncanville PD Channel 1: 453.3125 131.8

Duncanville PD Channel 2: 453.4875 131.8

Regional Fire Dispatch: 460.2375 131.8

Duncanville FD (Channel 2): 453.6625 131.8

DeSoto FD (Channel 2) ?

Cedar Hill FD (Channel 2) ?

MDCs on 460.2875 & 460.3125

I'm getting the same on Duncanville, Cedar Hill and Desoto. My question is, are they planning on going p25 digital for their next step?
I live in Duncanville and monitor them on daily basis. Duncanville was on the old freq for a while.

Duncanville PD made the switch to the system for a while then went back to their VHF conventional channels. They didn't feel the system was reliable, which it wasn't. Word on the street is the same contract company is going to try to install a Kenwood NEXEDGE digital system next. Certainly that will work better out better than the TETRA system did? Neither systems are designed for the unique needs of law enforcement communications. Wasn't it President Lincoln's father who told his son it was ok to make a mistake, but only an idiot makes the same mistake twice? Or perhaps its a case of snake oil salesmen (they are selling radios today) the likes of which P.T. Barnum warned circus goers about 139 years ago!

Thanks for updating the information. I used to listen the fire depts in conventional VHF mode prior to regionalizing the dispatch, then when they did do regional on VHF, i still litened. I actually liked it better, this gave me 1 channel to listen to for 3 different city fire departments. Or i could just leave it on Region 3, which back then was used for structure fire calls. Once they moved to the MPT1327 I gave up listening to them. I am glad to see for now they are at least going back to conventional, and UHF.
I wonder if they will keep a similar channel line up, Region 1, 2 and 3 for FD, or if its going to be a regional dispatch with each city FD having a Ch 2.
I guess time will tell.

Again, thanks for keeping us updated.

That sucks, I was hopeing they would go P25. I monitor Grand Prarie sometimes as well as DPS and I like how well my PSR-600 receives them. All well, I think they were way better off staying on the old VHF freq.

Yea Racoon, shouldn't have used the term TETRA, apparently MPT-1327 is not TETRA, but a fore-runner:
"MPT1327 trunked PMR is widely used for business communications. Although the specification is based on a UK document, the system is used around the world and the MPT1327 trunking system has become an international standard. It has now been in use for many years, and technology has moved on, and other standards such as TETRA are being deployed. MPT1327 uses analogue voice, although the data is transmitted as digital information."

I caught Regional Fire Dispatch 460.2375 tone out a possible structure fire a few nights ago, the responding units checked out on 460.1125 with nothing showing. Still waiting for more traffic on the channel, as well as hopefully a name.

When you all figure it out why don't you host a live feed? My dad is BC for Cedar Hill and I would love to listen in!

Thanks

Heard today Regional FD kick out units on a structure fire, at the end she said "use DeSoto Repeater" I caught the traffic checking on route and at scene and being disregarded on 453.7625.

As far as live feed, i am to far north for a good live feed. I am also already hosting another feed. But thinking of changing it. But thats off topic for this posting.

Just a guess, so far, but since 460.1125 is licensed to the Duncanville site, that may be what would be called the "Duncanville" channel or repeater. Basing that guess on 453.7625 being called the "Desoto repeater", and it's licensed to the Desoto site.

If that line of reasoning proves correct, then possibly 460.4625 may end up being an FD frequency for Cedar Hill. Of the list of frequencies for the Cedar Hill site on the old SWRCC system, that appears to be the only one not identified as in use for something else. As letarotor has already noted, 460.0375 & 460.1625 are apparently Cedar Hill PD 1 & 2. And 460.2375 is being used as the Regional fire dispatch, much like Cedar Hill's old Vhf freq., 159.060, was used the same way. A fourth frequency on the site, 460.3125, letarotor identified as a probable mdt frequency. That leaves the fifth one, 460.4625, unidentified. So if Cedar Hill established a separate frequency, for fireground usage, that would seem to be the most likely candidate.

Submitted an update to RR for all these freqs earlier tonight. I am fairly sure most are correct, but if not be sure to submit changes if you hear differently. Thanks for all the follow-up posts. Mark
