I took the back off the speaker, drilled 4 holes and cut out the center for the speaker to clear then attached it with longer screws...
"osoklrs" is right ... I finally got it all done

Thanks everyone for the kind words ... I'm getting very good results from having the speaker at "ear level" The in-dash 996 is working out great too as is my home brew mag mount pedestal. It took me awhile to get the whole set up from conception to completion , but I'm pleased with the outcome with no regrets !

Great place to install, out of site out of mind in that location. I bet you can hear everything from there.

I did this with a jeep grand cherokee. Used a smaller speaker, and flush mounted it.

I love it, very professional looking and the sound was up high by my ear.

Then I got a sunroof on the new one... didn't think that through!

Nice install, looks great. I'm jealous!
