To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Recently I was able to come upon a few broken speaker mics for the XTS5000 and was thinking since the mics are toast (broken plastic and such) I could convert it to a audio adapter (granted no PTT no biggie) was thinking it would act as a good dust cover and still be able to use the 3.5mm Jack. I was able to break off the pin to make it match the picture of the actual adapter (shot in the dark) didn’t work. Looked up the pin diagram for the speaker mic and before breaking off more pins taped off the contact side of the radio for ext speaker and ext mic. Now have 3 pins “disabled” still no audio out of radio speaker. Before I hack up anymore of these surplus broken mics has anyone done this before or have a better idea of how to trick the radio into allowing audio out of the radio speaker while having the connector on? And do we think the 3.5mm Jack will still work? Thanks

I think it would be easier just buy the side connector dust cover. For about 10 bucks not including shipping, you can get a real original brand new cover.

Figured it out I was just taping the wrong contact on the radio. Tiny piece of masking tape over the first pin contact and it works fine all audio out of the radio and the audio Jack works too.

It’s audio only no PTT since the mic has been removed. It’s ok though with this one radio I only use it to monitor my other one I will purchase the actual audio adapter with the PTT button since I will transmit on it.

Yea I’m seeing that on eBay now I might grab one just figured I would give the mic connector a try since I had the broken mics and works as long as your not looking to transmit.
