• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

This is my first post so please bear with me . I was handed a what Iam starting to think is a white elephant. I was given the job of figuring out how to program our VHF radios. The guy that was doing it quit and would not show anybody how to use the software. The loptop is running win98 which I used several years ago to program the 800mhz STX. When I hooked the Speactra to the system it would turn it on and off several times. I would then get a message the communication failed. I then purchased the updated software when I learned that Win 98 is no longer supported. The software said that it would work on a computer running all the way up to XP. However the disk came with a whole bunch of files that I have no idea what to do with. I then hooked the radio up using the RIB and such and know it will not even do anything just say communcation failed. Does anybobdy have any ideas how to help me with this problem. I do belive that the cables and RIB are good as they did turn the radio on and off attempting to read the radio. thanks in advance for any help and Happy New Year

You didnt mention whaqt version of cps you are running. I have used COS 3.00.00 (windows version)with no issues . You are describing a comport issue that I have seen with faster computers running older software.

Thanks gary123 for replying. the CPS is version 5.03. It supports Win OS Vista. With those OS you know the computers are running faster. Do you have any ideas about changing the setting on the com port to make the CPS and the radio talk.

There is no such thing as Windows CPS for the Spectra, it uses RSS in DOS. Are you talking about an Astro Spectra?

I have left the comport settings at the windows default.

ResQguy is correct Im so used to programming Astro that I didnt think of the conventional only. Astro soft will not recognise conventional only.
