I was in the new opp mobile command unit yesterday and saw somethign strange iv never seen.
Beside on the of spectras there was a phone. And on the display it had 1HWY01. So i looked at it more and noticed it had all these buttons like on a spectra such as emer, dir, scan, local, ic, page and stuff like that. Its made by motorola.. I have the mod number RCH3000

Soo is it like.. same thing as the mobile just a phone ver?

The RCH3000 is a remote which connects to a consolette somewhere else.

It emulates a W9 type control head and uses a CAT-5 type cable to pass data to and from the consolette.

I have seen Spectra's in ambulances with the A9 head in the cab, and the telephone handset in the rear with the patient / emt...It's my understanding that some of the spectra's have a "dual head" configuration...

Handsets have been optional on a lot of radios for a long time.

Here's a picture so everybody can see what Muxlow is asking about:

RCH 3000 Deskset Controller

It's much more then just a handset.

It's a full blown control head packed into a telephone like box.

It's meant to be used at a desk position instead of a control head. It gives the operator full control over the radio unlike a handset which only gives you ptt and audio.

In an office (or Command Centre), the actual radio can be tucked away and the desk set placed where convenient. Think of it as a mini-console.

I think you'll find scanners in most of those types of tactical/command/communications vehicles. Not only can you monitor a whole bunch of your talkgroups at once with one piece of gear, but you can monitor other agencies as well.
