According the the fish wrapper (AJC.com), GCSO still has their license and they are running the radar and they are calling the catches to the GCPD. All totally legal.

Now, can we stop beating this dead horse (or chickien)?

This I understand but I have never been able to find a license for the freqs that I hear them on. I am talking about the Officer installed modified Yaesu's that I have seen in their patrol cars.

A limited number of officers use HAM freqs, I have no idea what they are. Gwinnett PD does have a few UHF freq's still licensed, its possible those are being used in simplex.

So because their department lost its permit, they cannot operate the device, even though they are a sworn Sheriff Deputy? It is department based not qualification based.

Yes an officer must have his/her own permit to use a speed detection device BUT they also have work for a department which has a valid permit from DPS, which the county PD and all the cities no longer have.

So since all city officers are also sheriff's deputies you would think this would exempt them but it doesn't because they aren't using GCSO owned speed detection and aren't actually working for GSCO.

I have yet to hear a GCPD officer use amateur radio frequencies. They use frequencies in the 151-155MHz range. They switch between frequencies quite often. Back when they were still on their analog trunked system, they used it because they were not encrypted. If you all remember the standoff in the Sugar Hill area a few years ago, I monitored the SWAT team using vhf so as not to tip off the media and those listening to the analog system.
