Anyone familiar or had person experience with the Spider Antenna sold by several stores? Described in one ad as: "The Spider scanner base station antenna is designed to cover the frequencies from 30 - 1200 MHz. It is ideal for all band scanners, including low band, high band, UHF and 800 MHz frequencies."
It's strange looking and I'm looking for a new roof or attic mounted antenna that will pick up all bands, although I know that's not really possible. I'll be listening to VHF hi, UHF, and 800.
Thanks.

It looks like a 5 band parallel vertical dipole - about the only way to get real broadband operation. I just wish they'd kill the hype and tell you which bands it really covers. VHF-lo, air, VHF-hi, 450 and 850? Could be.

But not one antenna covering the entire range with no breaks.

well, what range they and others claim is technically correct. any piece of metal will pick up a signal.

but how well... now THAT is the question.

Hi all,

A couple of months ago the same question was raised and after doing some research I answered the question. To repeat my answer in simplified form here, most antennas are made of metal, this one is made of snake oil.

I have thought for some time that I could market a wet kite string for full coverage scanner antenna. And you know what, some guy would order one, then post here that it doesnt work too good. Larry

It would - once he bought the "tuner" from you. :)
