My TRX 1 does a terrible job on this system. Misses calls, most audio (when it receives) is Ducky- only rarely is not Ducky. Conventional and Stars are excellent. My Pro 106 and 96 does a much better job on the Phase 1 side. Any suggestions for improvement would be appreciated.
Everybody is waiting for a scanner to come out that will decode voice reliably on these simulcast systems. Maybe some day. A directional 800 mhz yagi antenna, which can be had for as little as $10-$15 on Amazon, might offer some improvement while using the scanner at home. But don't get your hopes up too high. Such an antenna helps my Uniden 436 but it's not perfect. And the 436 tends to be a little better than GRE/Whistler scanners on simulcast, in general.
The idea is to aim the yagi at one particular tower on the system, while trying to limit signals from other towers.
A Unication receiver does well on simulcast, but Unication doesn't yet offer P25 Phase 2 capability. It's coming though.
