Firefighters in Colorado Springs are battling a wildfire and have cut a trench around it in hopes of containing it.

The blaze is in the Bancroft Heights area, said Kathy Prudhomme, a spokeswoman with the Colorado Springs Fire Department.

Springs firefighters are being assisted by the Fort Carson Fire Department, and a fire-fighting aircraft is being called in, Prudhomme said.

The firefighters hope to contain the fire to under 2 acres, she said. Authorities do not consider the fire a threat to any homes at the moment.

This story will be updated as more details become available.
