Squelchless?

Hi! I've been semi-lurking here awhile and have picked up a good deal of info concerning the BC246T. I received mine yesterday and really appreciate everything about it. I had been using my trusty PRO-39 ever since the early nineties.

I've gotten my mind wrapped around trunking and the unique programming of the 246, but one thing bothers me a bit. I have no squelch. Or at least I don't hear any squelch no matter where I turn the squelch control. The instructions say to turn squelch all the way counterclockwise, then press and hold the power button for two seconds. Then turn the volume up until a hiss is heard, then turn squelch clockwise until the hissing stops.

I can't get it to hiss! I'm familiar with squelch and the hissing, having many years experience with the POR-39. What gives?

Signal strength is great, I'm getting plenty of hits, I have no problems listening, but it still concerns me. Is this a flawed unit? Should I worry? Does it matter? Is there a setting somewhere which would reinstate squelch control?

If you are in the trunking mode you can't hear the control channell. You can only hear it in the manual mode. The Radio is using the control channell and until it gets a TG it mutes it.
