Very interesting. I love hearing about the old cold war comm stuff. I always think... Damn, if I had only known back then, what I know now. There's a book... "50 Years of the U-2". They talk about virtually every mission, and all kinds of stuff they did. One was where they would drop these listening boxes into Russia. They were basically just a self-contained box of what we would now call scanners. They would then relay whatever they picked up back to a command post, for as long as it lasted. It was basically disposable eavesdropping. They did the same thing with nuclear monitoring.
