Sacramento has rebanded

are they still on two different groups?
Well, .. yes. Fortunately the city sites and the county sites use the SAME TalkGroup IDs, so that makes life easier. It's really just a matter of determining who/what you want to monitor, and/or which site you get better reception from, and programming in those 4 control channel frequencies (scanner & mode dependent).

also, the freqs listed in this thread, are they the control freqs or the frequency limits? sorry, this is all new to me...
Go here to see a complete list of frequencies for each site. You'll see the control channel frequencies are colored, while the voice channels are black. Most newer scanners use "control channel only" mode so you only have to program in the control channel frequencies.

Some of us are planning a local get together to go over these and a myriad of other questions and issues related to the rebanding in Sacramento. Here is a thread on that. Please chime in in that thread if you plan to attend so we know how many to expect.

Has that last frequency gone online? I would think it would have happened last night.
Nope. Yeah I expected it to be activated Friday night. I am not seeing any traffic now on old frequencies, so they could take their time to activate this one voice frequency.

Sacramento County Rebanding

I realize what a pain in the neck this rebanding process is. It is even more of a pain to find someone to reprogram your scanner. Perhaps I can help. Give me a call. 916-508-0672. My name is Stretch.

I've been fortunate with the whole rebanding fiasco. I just recently moved back to the Sacramento area from Yuba County, where my BC246T never saw it's full potential. It served its purpose as the base radio for the Yuba-Sutter-Colusa scanner feed that I hosted for 3 years. My first experience with the 800 rebanding came when the City of Roseville made the change. I had a Pro-95 at work that went silent at that point (it was all I could listened to since I worked within the city limits inside a concrete structure, limiting my receiving abilities). Upon my return to a new residence in Fair Oaks, I reprogrammed the Bearcat to listen to the SRRCS chatter. It was at that point that I felt the need to find some software that would make the transition a bit easier, and chose to go with Butel's ARC246 program. Although somewhat limited in features in its demo form, it has proved invaluable in fixing the rebanding issue, as it does it automatically for you if the correct system is chosen from the drag-down menu during the input process.

Listening to the SRRCS bank last night, it did not sound like that I was missing any of the conversation that I normally would hear on a Saturday night. It should be noted that I primary listen to only law and fire channels for Sacramento County, its incorporated cities, and West Sacramento in Yolo County. It sounds like most, if not all, of the transition is close to being completed.

Again, I must reiterate that if your scanner allows you to program it by PC, make an attempt to try to figure this out to make things easier for you by using some of the free and shareware available. It might result in less of a headache and allow you to get the scanner back up to date in a quick fashion. Good luck!!

So I finally bit the bullet and decided I needed to replace my Uniden 245XLT. Ok...So the County mad ethe decision easier for me by killing off the old system. :)

Anyway, I bought the BC15X, but was also looking at the BCD996XT. Would there be any advantages to having gotten the 996XT over the 15X? I've already discovered that Placer County is using P25, which isn't a huge issue currently, since I mostly listen to SacCo/Citrus Heights... But, my concern is that SacCounty may switch over to P25 and/or digital, which the 15X wouldn't be able to handle.

I guess what I'm looking for is, what are the chances of the SacCo system going P25 and/or digital in the near future? Am I going to need to replace the 15X within the next couple of years? Should I just get the 996XT now? Or, will there be some change in the next couple of years (Anything planned) that will obsolete both the 15X and the 996XT?

Anyone wanna buy a 245XLT. :)

Wow - I have a couple 245XLTs --- I don't think I have powered those up in years!

There are a few users and agencies that utilize P25 - It is expected that nearly every major Law Enforcement entity will have some P25 Talk Groups, and even a couple encrypted at some point (don't start encyption conversation please!) - Full P25 - Highly doubtful anytime soon, we're talking years folks. Also, each agency has the choice to go P25, you might find a few small entities go digital, but I don't expect SPD/SSD anytime soon. Again, talking years.

Sorry, I wasn't insinuating that I had the serial numbers to prevent anyone stealing them. I meant I have both of them so we knew whose radio went deaf. I wouldn't have left the radios and computer if I thought you weren't trustworthy!

Thank you for fixing the power supply. I bought that PC used for ~$80 bucks, so I don't know how much money I would invest. I would love to help get the agency issue sorted out. It's been a while since I've put hands on the setup, but I bet we could figure it out. If the SoundBlaster external card is toast then one of those $1 jobs is probably a good choice. I only got the SB because other feeds had used them.

I have some USB sound cards I purchased from eBay for $1 that I could donate. If any of you (or hopefully all of you) plan to meet up next w/e I could give them to you then.
I

definately am gamed to go to the get together.
Yea, the feed is weird on the other scanner (Elk Grove, Twin Rivers, etc). Its like 1 scanner is taking over both soundcards in the computer. The scanner was properly programmed by sacscan and verified working.. I am hoping one of those sound cards will work. I tried it with one of those external soundblaster cards and both feeds remained quiet. Windows found them ok, but no audio until I disabled the external card. Power Supply was no problem.. just finding one was a pain.. Had to resort to ebay for that :)

You have to tell ScannerCast where to get the audio from. Even though Windows will find the cards, that's only 1 part of the story. I also use a DigitalLevelMeter (from Darkwood) to monitor the audio levels I am streaming. This gives me a better indication that everything is working and that sound is actually being streamed.

Thank you for the replies. I wound up taknig the BCT15X back to Fry's and getting the BCD996X. So... There's a 15X sitting at Fry's already programmed up. :)

Hopefully I'll get another 8 years out of this scanner, like I did with the 245XLT.

Thanks again!

SRRCS site 2 (county)

The following voice channel showed up today just after 11am
853.3250

That should complete the rebanding of this site. Info submitted to the DB.

rebanding

this is confusing to me. I saw the new freqs to enter but then there were other numbers that I don't understand. I am using Freescan and a bearcat 396XLT scanner. can someone please explain this conversion to an old, confused man...?

All you need to do is create a new system with just the control freqs...or...import the system from the database using freescan.

so if I make a new database in freescan, all I need are the control freqs? what about the upper and lower freqs I have read about? do I still use the same user or talk group ID's?

I realize this is alot to ask but I need to get my ears back. I freelance news here in Sac and operating in the dark. Is there anyone who might email me freqs and instructions on rebanding a 396XLT with freescan? or maybe give me a call so we might meet up and just clone my radio to yours? I am Terry at 916-475-3622 and my email is te2ryto2ler@yahoo.com.

Thanks to everyone who is taking part in this discussion. This is a great site!!!
