Does anyone have a Win96 file they can send me and I can just insert into my Win96 program to set up my Pro-96. All this talk is making my head spin.

Thanks

hi Everyone, I bought a bct15x because my bc780xlt would not support the rebanding. Today I tried all the different suggestions in this thread and still couldnt get anything to work. I just noticed something though, my firmware ver is 1.03, I think the rebanding is only on ver 1.06 and newer. Does anyone else have a bct15x that could please let me know? I dont have the pc cable so looks like I may have to purchase one. If it turns out that I do need the firmware update would anyone be able to help me with this at the meetup? thanks

If you have the BCT15X, not the BCT15, then 1.03 is the current firmware. The BCT15X supports rebanding out of the box, so all you need to do after entering the control channel frequencies is set the bandplan, which is the same for all Uniden scanners (GRE/RadioShack scanners use six different bandplans instead of the two that Unidens use).

If you bought that scanner new it should have come with the PC cable, which plugs into the front of the scanner for firmware updates.

If you have the BCT15, then you need to apply the 1.06 firmware update for rebanding. Here is the page for the BCT15 rebanding firmware update that gives the bandplan settings to use. These settings will work in the BCT15X as well. Scroll down to the bottom of the page: BCT15FirmwareUpdate < UnidenMan4 < TWiki

I have rebanding firmware updates for all Uniden and RadioShack scanners in my laptop, as well as the cables to connect the scanners to the computer. I will be bringing it to the meetup.

Thank you for the information. It turns out I needed to do a full reset of the scanner. I bought it from someone in San Jose and it had too many custom settings I couldn't get around or find. He didn't have the cable so I will look for one online. After resetting, putting in the 2 band plans, and then the 4 control channels, Bingo! Now just need some help with entering in all the talk group IDs :) thanks again

if you want to be able to program your scanner easily...
get a scanner thats compatible with FREESCAN AND rebanded ready
and import everything right from radio ref
get a premium sub (its cheap) and let the software do all of the work for you

all of this work and misunderstanding over something that's so basic and so simple with FREESCAN

you could fill up your scanner within minutes using freescan and IMPORT

sell your old junky scanners on ebay someone will always buy them somewhere and use that money to buy a new scanner

I agree with avtar. Freescan is very simple and easy. And FREE.

My freescan profile covers everything in California from the Oregon border to the grapevine. Plus, it's all geotagged.

That was very helpful "benca". I was going through 14 pages on this thread to try and figure this out. Thanks for doing that work for me. I just didn't understand that it needed the "Custom" banding. thought I could enter the Red Control Channels of the rebanded system and be set to go. As, people were describing here that the 396xt does all the work for you. Obviously, that is not the case in this system. Thanks again for the explanation and the correct Band Plan.

Glad its working for you.. the Uniden and the GRE scanners I have all needed the custom band plan to work correctly...

I figured that the rebanding process had completed since I just noticed today that my BC246T was no longer receiving the SRRCS when I turned it to Citrus Heights PD. Unfortunately the BC246T is one of those scanners that requires you to erase and reprogram if you want to move to a custom bandplan.

Also not sure why but I cant seem to get freescan to recognize my BC246T anymore. The last time I used it was ironically when Roseville rebanded as well awhile back. Although nothing has changed since then it no longer seems to be able to communicate with the scanner regardless of COM port setting in the software using my serial adapter cable. I'm wondering if maybe I'm missing something in the connecting process even after reading over the user guide again. Like something you have to enable on the scanner itself to get it to connect. I still have Xfer Information > PC Control set to 57600 bps as well under the settings menu in the BC246T. If its not something I'm missing I'm thinking it could possibly be an issue with this particular PC or windows XP otherwise I'm beginning to suspect the data port on the scanner itself has gone bad so I'll likely have to reprogram it manually by hand anyways.

Did you do an "auto detection" to try and find the port? What you're describing happens with me about 1 out of 10 times I connect the scanner. I use the Auto detect and everything's fine.

Yeah I did just that as well as updating freescan to the latest version in case there was some issue with software compatibility itself due to windows update, etc.

One thing I can think of that's changed since the last time it last worked was that I installed Blackberry software manager on that system. I noticed it added two additional COM ports which show up and causes a vbasic error with freescan when you try to select them for testing as opposed to the auto scan option. So now I'm wondering if that may have been the issue.

At any rate for now I gave up and just decided to reprogram the SRRCS in by hand instead earlier.

re: rebanding

Turns out that on my 396xt that control channels were not enough. I had to add a custom band plan for both sites in order for it to work. I used the one listed in this thread, and from Scannermaster.com

As soon as the new band plan was in place, everything starting tracking.

1 851.0250 854.0000 440 + 25 kHz
2 851.0125 868.9875 0 + 25 kHz

My firmware is 1.07.00, and I can't update to the newer one, (check my COM settings, yeah, right, Freescan works fine). Oh well, seems to be working now.

Thanks.

Are there any other custom bandplans I can try? This one doesn't seem to be doing to trip 100%. I'm hearing transit traffic on A3 which I'm assuming shouldn't be there.

Are you sure you are even receiving the frequencies you are missing? I'm closer than you and I have trouble. When you are at a far enough distance like we are the signal is seriously going to ebb and flow.

The bandplan you quoted has an error. It should be:
1 851.0250 859.0000 440 + 25 kHz
2 851.0125 868.9875 0 + 25 kHz
