Heard a request for officers who didn't yet have a rebanded radio to "respond to the command post to pick up a new radio". This was on SP 2, the tactical channel for the Santa Claus Parade.

My MTS2000 was flashed but won't pick up Roseville even though it is on one of my zones. The tech told me my handheld is getting replaced because of the rebanding but no P25.

All of the MTS2000's that I have used AFTER the flash will pick up Roseville, but you have to be pretty close to Roseville's network. Barely get it downtown

re: sac reband

So when do I need to reprogram my scanner from the old frequencies to the new rebanded ones? Looks like it's still working the old way?

Correct, they are still using the old frequencies. They should switch to the new rebanded frequencies sometime in the next few months (supposedly by May 2011). You'll know when your scanner suddenly stops receiving the system. Then you'll have to reprogram it with the new frequencies and a custom band plan available here:

I apologize in advance for what may come across as a total "noob" question, but I think I may not be the only one wondering this...

I currently have two Radio Shack PRO-528 units -- one that I carry on occasion and another that is constantly connected to a PC at the house (it is the source of my "Sacramento City Police - North Command" feed).

Based on mlangeveld's post above, they're apparently running in parallel right now -- yes?

According to the Radio Shack PRO-528 Wiki, my scanners do not support Motorola Rebanding -- yet the Rebanding page does not have my scanner on its admittedly partial "Which Scanners Stop Working" list. Must I replace my scanners? If so, what are my options? If you have specific recommendations of makes and models, I would appreciate having them.

Thanks in advance for helping to solve my ignorance problem.

I don't think they are running parallel systems yet. The new frequencies don't usually go online until closer to the switchover.

As you said, the rebanding page does not list all non-compatible scanners, so I would trust the wiki page for the PRO-528 (which states that it does not support rebanding). The Radio Shack Scanners page lists all of their scanners and whether or not they are compatible with rebanded systems:

West Sacramento 800 MHz Down

At 1427 hrs, West Sac Engine 42 came up on Green Fire and reported that their 800 MHz radios were down until further notice. Does anyone have an update on the SRRCS rebanding status?

Sacramento Regional Radio Communication System

If I understand this correctly; both the Sacramento County and Sacramento City systems are presently simulcasting on their "old" frequencies AND their rebanded frequencies.

What I would like to know is if there are any negative aspects if I were to only monitor the new rebanded frequencies. Are ALL of the TGs simulcast on both systems (not talking about county vs city, I am talking about legacy trunked freqs vs new rebanded trunked freqs)?

Thanks in advance.

Just to clarify, the frequencies I posted are what the rebanded frequencies WILL be, but they are not online yet.

No, that's not correct. When the system rebands it will be a full transition to the 850s. It's one or the other, not both. The new rebanded freqs use the old 866 hardware. Simulcasting in the fashion you state is not technically smart or financially possible.

When the switchover occurs, the new control channels will be turned on and the old control channels will be turned off. Having two control channels running at the same time would cause problems for subscriber radios.

Actually, if it's done in one night the channels designated for control (and not used as such) will be reprogrammed and then the old one disabled and then reprogrammed. There's not necessarily a "switch" that's turned on or off. That's the simple way to explain it.

Some systems will do it progressively (Alameda County for example) and some can do it all in one night.

I had opportunity to visit SacPD's comm center last weekend. I learned from one of their shift supervisors that they plan to cut over to the new frequencies sometime this coming weekend.

My feed will probably go down for a few days until I get my new rebanding-compatible scanner up and running next week. I just bought two "like new" PRO-107s on eBay and there are six more left as of this moment...

He said something about they finished work on the motorcycles and only had a few dozen other radios to do, so his answer to my "when" question was "in a week." He also talked a little about P25 but with no timeframe estimates, just "eventually down the road" stuff.

I also asked about the general feeling among management and rank-and-file about attitudes about rebroadcasting traffic via RadioReference.com feeds, and the sense I got is that it's no big deal. I hesitate to say that's absolute as his perception may not be 100% spot-on, but it's what he said.

It's been a week since I was told it would be "in a week," yet we're still on the old frequencies.

Fortunately, my pair of Pro-107s arrived earlier than expected, so I'm ready for the change when it happens.

My feed is now running on a PRO-107.
